Summer 2020 Frequently Asked Questions


General

Question:

What is the status of events this summer?

Answer:

  • OA Spring Ordeal - Canceled
  • Beaver Day at Woodland Trails - Canceled
  • Cub Adventure Weekend - Postponed to September 11-13
  • NYLT - Cancelled
  • District Day Camps - Canceled, Alternative experience being developed
  • Scouts BSA Resident Camp - Canceled, Virtual experience being developed
  • Cub Resident Camp - Canceled, Virtual experience being developed
  • Buckskin - Dates changed to October 7, October 16-18

Question:

My unit had placed a deposit for resident camp this summer.  What will happen with that deposit?

Answer:

You will have two options for any deposits you had made for this summer:

  • Transfer the deposit to 2021
  • Receive a full refund

We are working to contact all units that had a deposit for this summer, however you may email camping@miamivalleybsa.org to inquire directly about your unit’s deposit.

 

Question:

What will happen to our payment for events that were canceled?

Answer:

Refund checks for the full amount paid will be issued for any event that is not able to be rescheduled.

 

Question:

Will Council properties be open for camping or events during the closure?

Answer:

Cricket Holler and the Schiewetz Leadership Training Center will be closed until July 1st.  Woodland Trails Scouts Reservation will be closed until August 1st.  Extending closures will be evaluated based on Local, State and Federal guidelines.

 

Question:

Our unit or organization had already made a reservation for an event or campsite during the closure.  What will happen with our payment?

Answer:

Any units or organizations that had a reservation during this closure will be contacted to see if they would like a refund or to transfer their payment to a later date.  You can email camping@miamivalleybsa.org to inquire about your options.

 

Question:

Is it possible the closure will be extended further?

Answer:

Yes.  Our first priority is the health and safety of our Scouts, volunteers, and staff.  Council leadership will continue to monitor the situation and will follow all guidance provided by Local, State, and Federal authorities.  Any decision to extend this closure will be made as timely as possible.

 

Question:

How will the Council ensure health and safety once events are held?

Answer:

We will follow all guidance provided by the Ohio Department of Health to ensure the health and safety of our Scouting community.  Additionally, our COVID-19 taskforce, which consists of medical doctors, will work with program leaders to ensure all safety protocols are followed.


Day Camps

Question:

Will there be an alternative to Day Camps?

Answer:

Yes.  Cub Adventure Boxes have been developed so that Cub Scouts can get a head start on advancement for next school year.  These can be ordered by clicking here.


Resident Camps

Question:

Will there be an alternative to Scouts BSA Resident Camp?

Answer:

Yes, the Miami Valley Council will host a virtual Scouts BSA camp.  Virtual camp is tentatively set to begin on June 21st and end on July 31st.  We will post a virtual camp guide by May 15th.

 

Question:

Will there be an alternative to Cub Scout Resident Camp?

Answer:

Yes.  Cub Adventure Boxes have been developed so that Cub Scouts can get a head start on advancement for next school year.  These can be ordered by clicking here.


Cub Scout Activities

Question:

What are the new dates for Cub Adventure Weekend?

Answer:

Cub Adventure Weekend has been rescheduled for September 11th - 13th at Woodland Trails.  More information regrading program and event registration will be released later this summer.


Training - NYLT & Buckskin

Question:

Does this decision impact NYLT?

Answer:

Yes, NYLT has been cancelled for 2020.

 

Question:

Will this impact Buckskin?

Answer:

Yes, to accommodate other events being rescheduled we are adjusting the Buckskin Fall course dates to October 7 and October 16-18.


Order of the Arrow, Miami Lodge

Question:

How will this impact OA events moving forward?

Answer:

Events that were scheduled during the closure period are canceled.  Our tentative schedule of events for the remainder of the year is:
