TechFest 2017 the is free family fun with STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). Scouts are invited to come to TechFest on Saturday, February 18 10 am – 6 pm and/or Sunday February 19, 11 am –5 pm at Sinclair Community College, 301 West 4th Street, Dayton, 4502 (GPS Address). There is no cost to attend and parking is free at Sinclair Community College, Building 12 and Lot 1. Tech Fest is held during engineer’s week which honors George Washington because he was an engineer prior to his position of President. Scouts are invited with family, pack, crew, or troop.
Youth (k-12) can engage in hands-on personal interaction with practicing professionals associated with STEM fields. Approximately 70 + Hands-on exhibits and demonstrations are conducted by members of professional societies, various departments of Greater Dayton colleges and Universities (Wright State University, University of Dayton, Sinclair Community College, and others), permanent venue organizations with STEM content (Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, National Museum of the US Air Force, Dayton History – Carillon Park, National Park Service and others), plus local stem based employers. Buildings 13 and 28 will have larger scale STEM attractions including remote piloted vehicles (drones), DP&L demonstrations electric power use and safety in electric power, Kodak with a ultra-high speed printer, and aircraft to inspect. Additionally, info-tainment presentations on STEM topics are presented during the two days. Speakers have included: Dr. Forman, professor emeritus in Chemistry; WSU, Classical Guitarist, Jim McCutchin, who has a degree in physics and demonstrates the science in music; Henry Ford & Thomas Edison in the form of character actor, Hank Finkin; and a retired math teacher who has a magic presentation.
